Tier 1 - Banking and Finance
Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners focuses on particularly high-value transactions in the areas of acquisition and project finance. The firm has a well-established roster of Thai corporate clients, many of which it assists with the corporate and financing aspects of their acquisition and investment activities abroad. Passawan Navanithikul, who has a proven track record in large financing transactions, recently advised ThaiBev on the financing aspects of its acquisition, through affiliated company Vietnam Beverage, of Vietnam's Sabeco Brewery. In the project finance space, Nattaporn Pengkul took the lead role in advising a wind power developer and operator on the THB37bn financing for five onshore wind farms; associate Pimkwan Subprasert worked alongside Pengkul on the project. Also of note is the team's lender-side work, where it has developed strong relationships with leading banks in Thailand and throughout the region. Tier 1 - Capital Markets
Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners maintains a busy practice that sees a regular stream of instructions from issuers and underwriters alike. On the equity side, the team assisted Do Day Dream with its IPO on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), which was valued at THB4m, or approximately $123m. In the debt market, the team acted for CGIF, a trust fund of the Asian Development Bank, in relation to the issuance by Siamgas and Petrochemicals of partially guaranteed bonds, which marked CGIF’s first support to a Thai corporate issuing THB-denominated bonds. Senior partner Veeranuch Thammavaranucupt, who heads the capital markets group, has cemented her reputation in the field with involvement in a number of precedent-setting debt and equity offerings. Other names to note include Patcharaporn Pootranon and Khemajit Choomwattana, who have mixed capital markets and M&A practices; Pootranon also has expertise in securities regulations, and Choomwattana has considerable experience with REIT offerings. Senior counsel James Lawden, who is qualified in England and Wales, is another contact in the capital markets group; he has experience working in London, Tokyo and Bangkok.

Tier 1 - Corporate and M&A
The highly regarded corporate and M&A department at Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners has played a role in some of the largest corporate deals in Thailand and throughout the region. Recently, this has included advising ThaiBev on the acquisition by Vietnam Beverage (an associated company of ThaiBev) of a 53.6% stake in Sabeco Brewery, and also acting for PTTEP in relation to its acquisition of a 22.2% stake in the Bongkot project from Royal Dutch Shell; the latter deal increased PTTEP's overall stake to a majority shareholding. On the sell side, Panuwat Chalongkuamdee advised Rexel on the disposal of its Southeast Asia operations to private equity firm American Industrial Acquisition Corporation. Further, the firm's knowledge of acquisition financing, environmental law, competition and IP allows it to provide comprehensive service from the initial stages of a transaction to post-acquisition issues. Tier 1 - Dispute Resolution
Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners occupies a space in the upper echelons of Thailand’s dispute resolution market, where it has achieved enviable successes in high-profile litigation. The litigation department works almost irrespective of industry sector, and is equipped to handle domestic disputes as well as cross-border matters, where it works closely with leading foreign firms. TMT litigation is a particular area of strength; the team has handled some of the country’s most significant telecoms disputes, which recently included Rapinnart Prongsiriwattana representing a Thai telecoms company in Administrative Court proceedings concerning certain questions of concessions, public-private law and contract law. Elsewhere, Warathorn Wongsawangsiri successfully defended an insurance company against a THB2.2bn claim by a company in the automotive sector. Other specialisms in the department include corporate criminal defence involving corporate governance and securities law; Sakchai Limsiripothong, who is one of the firm’s leading litigators, is a key contact in this space. Practice head Phisit Dejchaiyasak is well-versed in high-profile litigation and arbitration, and Pathorn Towongchuen has a broad dispute resolution practice that includes administrative law, bankruptcy and debt restructuring.

Tier 1 - Projects and Energy
Noted for its ‘broad knowledge’, ‘diligence’ and ‘commitment’, Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners has established itself as a go-to firm for PPPs in Thailand. The group has seen significant growth in recent years, and it expanded at the associate level in 2017 in response to the high level of demand from its clients, which include public and private sector companies. The Port Authority of Thailand is one of its key clients; the firm has been engaged by it to advise on 14 PPP projects. For the Department of Highways, it has been providing ongoing advice on a major motorway project; the team’s role includes drafting and revising the client's project agreements, negotiating with private entities and assisting on the drafting of bidding documents. Beyond infrastructure projects, the team has also handled numerous energy and telecoms projects in the country. On the lender side, the department has established relationships with some of Thailand’s biggest banks, as well as international financial institutions. The ‘highly influential’ Weerawong Chittmittrapap has ‘excellent cooperation, communication and negotiation skills’. Passawan Navanithikul is noted for her ‘effective and prompt responses’ and ‘service-minded approach’. Senior associate Jirapat Thammavaranucupt is also highly recommended. With comprehensive knowledge of bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring processes, Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners is home to one of the busiest restructuring practices in the country. Its senior litigators have significant experience in high-value and complex cases, and the group is also equipped to handle out-of-court restructurings. The co-heads of the team illustrate its multi-disciplinary nature: Suntus Kirdsinsap has a broad litigation practice, with over 30 years of experience representing companies in myriad industries, while co-head Chinnavat Chinsangaram has a strong non-contentious practice that takes in restructuring, bankruptcy, banking and finance. In ongoing work, a team led by Weerawong Chittmittrapap is representing a telecoms company in its debt reorganisation, which has involved over $2bn owed to onshore and offshore creditors and created over 20 civil and criminal cases. Tier 2 - Real Estate and Construction
Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners handles a range of real estate, engineering and construction projects, and with a full-service offering, it is able to draw on the expertise of its capital markets, banking and M&A lawyers to provide a well-rounded service to its real estate clients. Weerawong Chittmittrapap and Panuwat Chalongkuamdee acted for Dusit Thani Group on a joint venture mixed-use real estate development project which will include residences, retail and office spaces and a large green space. The firm’s contentious practice is of particular note; combining its real estate expertise with its top-tier litigation capabilities, it is able to take on complex construction disputes, including arbitration and administrative court proceedings. Real estate M&A also features. Senior partner Chinnavat Chinsangaram is notable for his broad corporate, finance and real estate experience. Tier 2 – Technology, Media and Telecommunications
Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners’ extensive telecoms-sector experience is underpinned by the firm’s market-leading corporate, litigation and finance practices, ensuring strong workflows in this area. The TMT group also counts media and entertainment companies among its clients and has developed an active fintech practice, where it provides advice to multinational technology companies on Thailand’s regulatory environment. Telecoms service provider Jasmine International is a significant client; in recent work, Passawan Navanithikul assisted it on a THB8.5bn facility granted by The Siam Commercial Bank to be used for refinancing and on-lending to its group companies. In M&A, a team led by senior partner Weerawong Chittmittrapap acted for an investment company in the purchase of 50% of the total shares of a media and TV company. On the contentious side, highlights included Rapinnart Prongsiriwattana’s filing of a successful motion to lift an injunction against assets of a mobile operator, another of the firm’s key clients. The department is co-led by telecoms expert Veeranuch Thammavaranucupt and Samata Masagee, who has an impressive track record in corporate transactions for TMT companies.

Tier 3 - Dispute Resolution: International Arbitration (new practice area in the rankings)
Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners is by any measure a go-to firm for domestic litigation, and also maintains a busy international arbitration practice. With particular experience in Singapore, South Korea and Switzerland, the team regularly works with leading international firms to represent Thai and multinational clients. In addition, it has a solid track record in the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Thailand; in recent work, the team assisted a Macau-based company with the enforcement of an SIAC award. Warathorn Wongsawangsiri is one of the key names to note for international arbitration; he is currently representing several clients before the SIAC and HKIAC.
